Bible Study

Saint Petroc’s Parish Church

Bodmin, Cornwall

The Bible study, in its current form, started after a sermon on trees in the Old Testament, which was so obscure in its Biblical references that a few people wanted to learn more! We meet monthly and topics for study so far have included: insights on the reading process from literature; the Transfiguration; a comparison of Genesis 1 and John 1; laughter in the Bible and the account of the meeting on the Road to Emmaus in Luke. The evening is introduced by Fr David and includes prayers

3rd Saturday Breakfast

The world’s diversity is a sign of God’s creativity.

On every third Saturday of the month, the Parish hosts an open breakfast at Folly Tea Rooms, at 8.30am. Following a full English breakfast, there is time for a discussion, usually introduced by one of the Team clergy and focussing on an area of interest to the people present.
Our parish motto is: Responding to human need with loving service and the location of the breakfast in a cafe in town is part of the aim: to get out into the town and discuss issues which are current and important to people inside and outside the church.
People are invited to bring texts of special importance to them from the Bible and other literature and are encouraged to share the reason they value them. Our emphasis is on sharing enthusiasm for our faith and traditions and listening to others whose experience of life may be different from our own; and on celebrating the world’s diversity as a sign of God’s creativity.
